for when "microwave until warm" is too complicated...

When I do Personal Chef sessions, I put a little tag on each package of food that gives the description of the food, the date it was made and reheating instructions, whether it's "Bake at 350 for __ minutes" or "Microwave until warm".

"Samsung has teamed up with Birds Eye frozen foods to develop a smart oven that knows how to cook a meal by just reading “Smart Codes” found on specially marked packaging. Buyers seeking the ultimate in convenience will appreciate this oven, just scan and cook. It’s priced at $525, no word yet on availability"

  1. This idea is either stupid or brilliant. It's stupid if the heating directions on microwave food for the past 10 years have all been correct. However, if the heating instructions have been dumbed down, because normal intelligent human beings have better things to do than to heat for 1 minute at 100% power then 3 minutes at 30% power, turning 45° every 30 seconds, then heating for 30 seconds at 80% power, this could be a brilliant idea, because we've all been eating either over- or undercooked microwave meals and, finally, they can be cooked right.

(Or we could just eat real food.)

  2. Yowza - $525 is insane, and I'm sorry, if someone doesn't know what "warm" is, then they need to step away from the appliances...
