FW: At-Home Recipe w/ Podcast Capabilities For Your Blog

Hey, Adam.

New at this, are you?

you can’t use fancy fonts when sending recipes.  can you guess why?

...and you obviously haven’t read my blog, if you think I'd pimp OG!   you saw what I did to sizzler, didn’t you?

for crying out loud!

Subject: At-Home Recipe w/ Podcast Capabilities For Your Blog

Hi there, fellow food blogger,

I’ve enjoyed reading through your blog and think that your readers may like an at-home recipe from Olive Garden for its Shrimp & Asparagus Risotto.  This dish is one of three new Olive Garden entrées featured in online cooking demonstrations with podcast capabilities.  The demonstrations are available to view and download on Olive Garden’s Web site (blah blah blah) Please consider this at-home recipe and podcast cooking demonstration as a blog post.

I also have at-home recipes for the other two dishes demonstrated in the podcast including Olive Garden’s Chianti Braised Short Ribs and Tuscan Garlic Chicken if you are interested.

Feel free to contact me with any questions.

Best,

Oh, my dear readers, do you have any idea how many of these I delete? I just had to share this one so you'd see how flagrant they are about whoreing their product, and how silly and clueless these PR people are.

  1. JoAnna,

I apologize - I thought this was something you might enjoy.

Actually most bloggers we send information to are pretty happy to receive it, and I usually get positive feedback in that I'm generally good about matching information with bloggers, and I never spam anyone’s blog itself.

I happen to be a blogger myself and love when organizations send me information, especially if it is a close match to what I write about.

I’ll remove you from my list – did not mean to upset you – only trying to spread some good at home recipes.

Please call/write me with any questions/concerns.

    Best,

    Adam Singer

  2. OK, sugar. I call you out. Send me a link to your blog, and if meets these three conditions, I'll take my diss down.

    1) it's NOT a propaganda blog like the panera one was.

    2) it's got to contain a pimp-post like what you sent me from a business that's NOT represented by your agency.

    3) It's got to have content that's outside the scope of your business.

I'd say that would justify to me that you're not spamming me with drivel from a major corporation selling overpriced pasta.

  4. I'm not doing your work for you, show me those posts.

and I think that in order to prove #2, I'll be validating that myself.

and btw, preemptively, I'm going to be gone for the rest of the day.

  5. 1) it's NOT a propaganda blog like the panera one was.

1a) it's not, i blog about anything/everything i feel socially relevant, you'll have to read through to get an idea.

    2) it's got to contain a pimp-post like what you sent me from a business that's NOT represented by your agency.

2a) I have plenty of examples of that, here's 2 simple ones:

    http://www.agsinger.com/?p=110

    3) It's got to have content that's outside the scope of your business.

3a) Sure, I write about culture & creative people just like you all of the time, for example:
    http://www.agsinger.com/?p=100

I apologize you didn't appreciate my pitch... You won't be bothered again, sorry for taking up your time.

  6. Um. Wow.

I think, Adam, you have to understand that as a PR person, e-mails like the one you sent are going to be looked on with a bit of skepticism. There is no way you are going to make anyone believe you were sending something just because you thought they would like. You are doing your job, which is all well and good.

However, you claim to match information to bloggers, but I think the reason you got called out here is that you didn't do that well in this case. JoAnna is a professional chef with culinary training who also has her own catering business, and her blog is about those things.

There is no reason why she would be interested in home recipes or in Olive Garden food.

In the future you should look for blogs that are truly dedicated to home cooking and are not run by professionals, and once you find those blogs, you'll need to read them a little to see if that person is a person who might be interested in Olive Garden recipes.

It involves more matching than just "this is a food blog."

    Good luck.

  7. Thanks KT - that is actually very good advice.

I'll consider this a good case study as 'what not to do'...

Sorry to cause drama, and yes JoAnna is quite an impressive chef after reading through her blog/website fully!

  8. Adam, you accepted my challenge, and I gotta give you props for that, but you lose.

I googled the language you posted, and couldn't find any examples of PR people specifically sending YOU something, and then specifically asking you to post to your blog. For either of the two instances you cited.

oh, and I don't much care for your re-editing of your blog to cover your butt:

    sneaky little stinker!

  9. I just didn't want you to get the wrong idea - spam and pitches are very different things.

That's fine if you don't want to remove it, its your blog and by sending you information I take the risk that anything can happen.

    Have a great day JoAnna.

Sorry, but due to the great deal of spam I get in the comments, you need to register before you can post a comment. Apologies for the inconvenience.
